The Position
We are seeking a Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to join our executive team in the Netherlands at a rapidly scaling agtech/biotech company with an operational footprint in South Africa, and ambitious growth plans across the EMEA region. The CFO will play a critical role in shaping the company’s financial future, enabling innovation through R&D financing, and supporting global expansion through sound financial strategy and project financing.

Key Responsibilities
- Strategic Financial Leadership: Drive long-term financial planning aligned with business growth and R&D goals; provide actionable insights to the the extended leadership team.
- Project & Structured Finance: Lead the structuring and execution of project financing, particularly in energy and agricultural initiatives across emerging markets.
- Investor Relations: Supporting the CEO and serve as the primary contact for existing and potential investors; manage capital raising efforts and ensure transparent financial communication.
- Financial Operations & Controls: Oversee financial operations across jurisdictions; ensure compliance with IFRS and local regulations; optimize internal processes for scalability.
- Budgeting & Forecasting: Lead group-wide planning cycles, including budgets, forecasts, and scenario modelling for R&D, operational, and commercial activities.
- Risk Management: Develop and implement a robust enterprise risk framework covering financial, operational, and geopolitical exposures.
- R&D Finance Oversight: Partner with science and innovation teams to budget, monitor, and report on research-intensive programs, including grant and subsidy management.
- EMEA Expansion Support: Support M&A activity, joint ventures, and new market entries through financial due diligence and modelling.
Your Profile
Proven senior finance leadership experience in a high-growth, multi-jurisdictional company (preferably in agtech, biotech, energy, cattle feed or infrastructure sectors).
- Strong leadership, communication, and team-building skills; capable of bridging technical and commercial domains.
- Well-acquainted with IFRS, with experience in multi-currency, multi-entity consolidation and reporting.
- Knowledge of project finance, especially in agriculture or renewable energy.
- Demonstrated success in investor relations, capital markets engagement, and fundraising.
- Expertise in enterprise risk management in complex operating environments.
- International experience operating across diverse regulatory, tax, and business landscapes within Europe, the Middle East, and Africa.
- Relevant academic background (e.g., Accounting, Finance, Economics); professional qualifications (e.g., CPA, CA, CFA, Registered Accountant) are a strong advantage.
- Preferably some experience managing financial aspects of R&D-intensive organizations, including intellectual property, public funding or subsidy frameworks.
- Fluent in English.
