OPUS Cactus® Officially Certified as a B Corporation™
A major milestone in the company’s mission to advance regenerative agriculture, climate action, and responsible innovation
Groningen, The Netherlands — OPUS Cactus® is proud to announce that it has officially been certified as a B Corporation™, joining a global community of companies that meet high standards of verified social and environmental performance, accountability, and transparency.
This certification marks an important milestone in the growth of OPUS Cactus® and reinforces what has long been at the core of the company’s identity: creating value through regenerative and generative agriculture, advancing decarbonization, and building commercially viable solutions that deliver measurable benefits for people, planet, and future generations.
From its headquarters and research lab in Groningen and its operational and agricultural research footprint in South Africa, OPUS Cactus® has been developing a model centered on the power of Nopal / Opuntia Cacti as a resilient and multifunctional biomass source. The company’s activities span green energy, carbon sequestration and insetting, animal feedstock, protein, water-related solutions, and biorefinery applications. Across all of these areas, the company has maintained a consistent ambition: to demonstrate that sustainable growth and responsible business can and must go hand in hand.
Becoming B Corp™ Certified is a formal recognition of that commitment with an overall B Impact Score of 89.1. (please view our results on our B Corp™ Company page)
B Corp™ Certification is awarded to companies that meet rigorous standards across areas such as governance, environmental stewardship, worker and community impact, and responsible business practices. For OPUS Cactus®, this achievement reflects years of work to align innovation with purpose and to build a business model designed not only for financial performance, but for long-term positive impact.
At a time when global agriculture, energy, and industrial systems are under increasing pressure to adapt, OPUS Cactus® believes businesses have a critical role to play in shaping more resilient alternatives. The company’s work is rooted in the use of cactus biomass on semi-arid and marginal lands, with a strong focus on biodiversity, desertification mitigation, circular resource use, and local economic opportunity. By combining science, research, and commercial execution, OPUS Cactus® continues to build scalable pathways for a lower-carbon future in (semi-) arid area’s and/or marginal lands.
The B Corp™ Certification also reflects the company’s broader view of success. For OPUS Cactus, impact is not a side initiative or communications theme. It is embedded in the business model itself. Whether through the development of renewable energy streams such as biogas, biomethane, hydrogen, electricity, and bio methanol, or through the creation of sustainable feed, protein, fiber, and other biorefinery products, the company aims to operate at the intersection of innovation, climate responsibility, and practical economic value.
This recognition is also deeply aligned with the company’s core values: Respect, Forward Thinking, and Entrepreneurship.
Respect means building in a way that honors ecosystems, communities, partners, and future generations. Forward Thinking means investing in research, innovation, and long-horizon solutions to some of the world’s most pressing environmental and agricultural challenges. Entrepreneurship means turning bold ideas into real-world applications that can scale across geographies and industries. B Corp™ Certification is a natural extension of these principles and a confirmation that OPUS Cactus® is building on a strong and responsible foundation.
“Achieving B Corp™ Certification is an important moment for OPUS Cactus,” the company stated. “It validates our belief that businesses can be a force for good while building commercially robust, future-oriented solutions. This certification strengthens our commitment to regenerative agriculture, decarbonization, innovation, and measurable impact. It is also a signal to our partners, investors, customers, and communities that OPUS Cactus is serious about accountability and about creating long-term value in a responsible way.”
As OPUS Cactus® continues to expand its biomass base in Europe, the GCC, and Africa, the certification provides both recognition and momentum. It supports the company’s ambition to collaborate with stakeholders who share a commitment to sustainability, transparency, and systems-level transformation. It also reinforces the company’s position in a growing global movement of mission-driven enterprises working to redefine what business leadership looks like in the 21st century.
For OPUS Cactus®, becoming a B Corp™ is not the finish line. It is a milestone in an ongoing journey.
The company remains committed to continuous improvement, deeper impact, and the pursuit of solutions that contribute to decarbonization, biodiversity, food and feed resilience, sustainable land use, and regenerative economic development. In a rapidly changing world, OPUS Cactus sees this moment as both an achievement and a responsibility: to keep building, keep improving, and keep proving that better business can create a better future.
